Stevie was diagnosed with MND in 2021. For him it was earth shattering news; he was unable to walk, stand, dress, go to the loo, cut food etc. What really hurts was that he couldn't play football, golf or help around the house. His rock - and "can do" link were his wife (and son) who cared for him each day. 

Stevie had great support from family and friends. His MND nurse and other NHS staff around the Anne Rowling Clinic kept his health in check. It was his love for Hearts that kept him going mentally.

Stevie had hand helmed across the Atlantic, met Princess Anne and led Hearts out in the Scottish Cup, he was their MND ambassador. 

Sadly Stevie passed away in December 2024. The entire MND-SMART team are grateful for his invaluable contributions to the trial as a participant advisory group member. Our thoughts remain with his family.
