MND-SMART launches in Cardiff

Jan 2022: A new trial centre has opened to participants in Cardiff, Wales.

We are delighted to welcome Wales to the MND-SMART family. The team at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff led by Dr Ken Dawson, started to recruit patients in January 2022 and have already randomised ten people.

This is the first trial for MND to have a site recruiting in Wales. We're very grateful to Dr Dawson and his team, for giving this opportunity to people living with MND across South Wales.

We are very excited to be joining the MND-SMART trial, which will give people with the condition in the South Wales MND network area the opportunity to be part of a drug trial running locally. It is important to give people with the condition hope that there may be a means of slowing the condition and to make an important contribution to research. We are fortunate to be well supported by the research nursing team at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff led by Dympna Mcaleer, and have made a good start with recruitment to the trial.

Dr Ken Dawson

MND-SMART is funded by MND Scotland, My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and the Euan MacDonald Centre
