MND-SMART launches in Hull Royal Infirmary

Sep 2025: Hull Royal Infirmary Joined the MND-SMART team.

We’re delighted to announce that MND-SMART is now open for recruitment at Hull Royal Infirmary, offering opportunities for participation to people living with motor neuron disease (MND) across the Hull and Humber Region.

Led locally by Principal Investigator Dr Amna Tariq, MND-SMART aims to identify treatments that will slow or stop the progression of MND. The trial utilises an innovative design, testing multiple drugs simultaneously – speeding up the time it takes to achieve definitive results.

Dr Tariq, says:

As treatment options in MND remain limited, access to clinical trials is more important than ever. We're excited to announce that the  MND-SMART trial is now available to  patients across the Hull and Humber region.

Hull Royal Infirmary, joins a network of 23 MND-SMART trial centres spread across all 4 UK nations. The addition of this site means that more people will have the opportunity to participate closer to home, reducing the travel burden and promoting access to vital research.

Working alongside Dr Tariq, lead research nurse Dom brings over two decades of experience in research nursing and is enthusiastic about supporting MND patients for the first time.

 Dom says:

I have a background as working in a research nurse role in various specialties for over 20 years. This will be the first time I have worked with patients who have MND, and I am really looking forward to them assisting in such an important study.’
